Project Title: General Hydrology Support for Water Acquisition Activities. <br /> <br />II. Principal Investigator: George Smith. P.O. Box 25486. Project Summary: <br /> <br />The Service's Division of Water Resources provides support for water acquisition <br />activities undertaken by the Water Acquisition Committee (WAC). Typically. the <br />support includes development of Scopes of Work and Progress Reports for gages. <br />and consultant Service to support water acquisition objectives of the WAC. Other <br />tasks include participation in special projects like Grand Valley Water Management. <br />Coordinated Reservoir Operations. and the Yampa River Operation and Management <br />Plan. Division of Water Resources staff also served as the Chairman of the WAC for <br />the past three years. <br /> <br />IV. Study Schedule: Initial Year - 1990 <br /> <br />Final Year - Ongoing <br /> <br />V. Relationship to RIPRAP: <br /> <br />Colorado and Green River Action Plans I. <br />Provide and protect instream flows. <br /> <br />VI. Accomplishments of 1997 Tasks and Deliverables: <br /> <br />A. Gage Installation and Maintenance: <br /> <br />Water Rights Acquisition Committee Administrative Work: Scopes of work and <br />contracts were developed for the operation of the Palisade Gage. and a analysis <br />of accretions to the 15 Mile Reach. Annual Progress reports were prepared on <br />gage operations and analysis of accretions to the 15-Mile Reach. A peer review <br />workshop was conducted to identify gaging needs on the Yampa and Green river. <br /> <br />S. Hydrology Support for Water Acquisition activities: <br /> <br />Assistance was provided to the Recovery Program Director in the development of <br />criteria for Ruedi releases. and coordination of the annual public meetings. 1997 <br />was a high runoff year, flows in the 15-Mile Reach and the Yampa River were <br />monitored on a daily basis during runoff and weekly through September. Flows <br />in the 15 mile reach remained above Service recommendations and no water was <br />delivered from Ruedi or Wolford Mountain reservoirs. While no water was <br />delivered for endangered fish a report will be prepared for the CWCS. Yampa <br />River flows were monitored closely and dropped relatively low by the end of <br />summer but did not drop below Service flow recommendations. Water was <br />released from Steamboat Lake under the take or pay lease to support a low flow <br />study being conducted by Recovery Program researchers. <br />
