lHJ2357

.

.

PACIFIC SOUTHWEST INTER-AGENCY COMMITTEE
Quarterly Report for Colorado
65-4 Meeting

Construction

Work is progressing rapidly on the CURECANTI UNIT. Over-
all percentage of completion of the prime contract for Blue Mesa Dam
and powerplant is about 97 percent. Placement of the dam embankment
has been finished and State Highway 92 across the top of the dam has
been completed. The initial closure of the outlet structure was made
on October 26, and on November 14 approximately 21,000 acre feet of
water had been stored in the reservoir. It is contemplated that
65,000 acre feet of water will be released from the upstream Taylor
Park reservoir in the near future so that the l12,000-acre-foot
permanent pool in the Blue Mesa reservoir can be filled by January 15,
1966. A low bid of $1,245,423 was received on October 28, 1965 from
the Eagle Construction Corporation of Loveland, Colorado for instal-
lation of turbines, generators and other electrical equipment, and
to construct the switchyard for the plant.

At Morrow Point Dam the first bucket of concrete was placed
on September 3, 1965. This represents the first of 360,000 cubic
yards needed to complete the 465-foot-high structure. Excavation of
the penstock tunnels, draft tube tunnels, stilling basin and power-
plant chamber continues. Almost 35 percent of the prime contract
work has been completed. The 6.5-mile-long access road to the
Crystal Damsite has been substantially finished.

Progress on the SILT PROJECT is moving along according to
schedule. At Rifle Gap Dam, excavation for the spilling stilling
basin, placement of dam embankment and concrete placement in the out-
let works tunnel lining continues.

Work also continues at a satisfactory rate on the silt
Pump Canal and the David Ditch. Leland C. Cofer, dba Varulco, of
Grand Junction, was awarded the contract for construction of the silt
Pumping Plant. This plant will have a lift of 210 feet and will be
constructed at the end of a 4,000-foot-long inlet canal from the
Colorado River.

Feasibility Investigations and Reports

The DOLORES PROJECT feasibility report was transmitted to
the Bureau of the Budget on september 22, 1965, to obtain views of
that agency relative to submittal of the report to Congress.
