~

-I '1<'),3~2
t ij" ~1

.

.

PACIFIC SOUTHWEST INTER-AGENCY COMMITTEE~
Quarterly Report for Colorado
65-2 Meeting

Construction

Work on Blue Mesa Dam, CURECANTI UNIT, has been resumed
at full-scale with the advent of warm weather. Approximately 80%
of the prime contract has been completed, and the contractor expects
to finish concrete and earthwork operations, except for the power-
plant, by late fall. He hopes to complete the powerplant by Christ-
mas.

About 24% of the work has been completed on the Morrow
Point Dam of the CURECANTI UNIT. The excavation has been completed
in the switchyard area and the powerplant access tunnel. Open-cut
excavation for the powerplant, including the tailraces and keyways
for the dam, is progressing and the contractor has begun to exca-
vate the underground powerplant chamber.

The H. E. Lowdermilk Company, Englewood, Colorado, sub-
mitted a low bid of $936,269 for construction of the difficult 6~-
mile access road to the Crystal damsite of the CURECANTI UNIT. The
contract has been awarded and the Lowdermilk Company has commenced
work.

On the SILT PROJECT, general progress has accelerated.
The Rifle Gap Dam contractor's efforts have been concentrated on
cutoff trench excavation and highway construction. State Highway
325 and a county road will be relocated to take traffic out of the
construction area at the bottom of the gap. The state highway will
cross the crest of the dam.

Award of contract has been made for construction of the
silt Pump Canal which will convey irrigation water to lands on the
lower portion of Harvey Mesa. A low bid of $308,000 was submitted
for reconstruction of about 6 miles of the existing Davie Ditch to
provide a full water supply for project lands on Davie Mesa.

Feasibility Investiqations and Reports

The ANIMAS-LA PLATA PROJECT feasibility report was trans-
mitted to the Bureau of the Budget on April 10, 1964, to obtain
views of that agency relative to submittal of the report to Congress.

;,l",,;;~
