<br />. <br />. <br />. <br /> <br />15 <br /> <br />Desert Fishes Council: The Desert' Fishes Council is a quasi- <br /> <br />governmental entity made up of representatives from the U, S. Fish & <br /> <br />Wildlife Service, Nevada and California Fish and Wildlife Agencies <br /> <br />and interested private individuals, <br /> <br />The group has a scope of interest which includes all endemic <br /> <br />desert fishes of the Nevada-California area, The Council ~reates <br /> <br />recovery teams for threatened desert fishes and makes recommendations <br /> <br />for addition or removal of candidate species. Meetings are held on an <br /> <br />as-needed basis. <br /> <br />Inter-Agency Technical Committee on Streamflow Forecasting: The <br /> <br />Inter-Agency Technical Committee on Streamflow Forecasting for the <br /> <br />Colorado River System was established in November, 1979.' By Memorandum <br /> <br />of Understanding, the committee formed a joint streamflow forecasting <br /> <br />facility, designated as the Colorado River ,Forecasting Service (CRFS). <br /> <br />The operation of this facility will be at the National Weather Service <br /> <br />.(~n~s), COlorado Basin River Forecast Center, located in Salt Lake City, Utah. <br /> <br />This is a cooperative effort of six federal government agencies to <br /> <br />improve the accomplishment of each agency's responsibility for the <br /> <br />Colorado River System, These agencies include: the National Weather <br /> <br /> <br />Service (NWS); the Upper and Lower Colorado River Regions of the Water <br /> <br />and Power Resources Service (IVPRS); the U. S. Geological Survey (USGS); <br />the South Pacific Division of the Corps of Engineers (COE);the Western <br /> <br />Area Power Administration (WAPA); and the Soil Conservation Service (SCS). <br /> <br />The overall goal of the CRFS is to pool certain resources of the <br /> <br />participants to improve streamflow forecast methods and to facilitate <br /> <br />data collection and dissemination for the Colorado River System, The <br /> <br />program will utilize advanced techniques for river forecasting, the <br /> <br />application of computers and hydrologic simulation models, and the use <br /> <br />C-16 <br />
