Don Maughan, Executive Director <br />Water Resources Council <br />2120 L Street, NW <br />Washington, D.C. 20037 <br /> <br />Dear Mr. Maughan: <br /> <br />Reference is made to prior correspondence re- <br />garding the scheduling of meetings in the United States. <br /> <br />In accordance with my original letter of June 7, <br />1971, and your suggestion of November 26, 1971, I have <br />canvassed the Executive Committee of IC~W in order to <br />get their views on the need for coordination of meetings <br />concerned with the various phases of water and related <br />land resources planning. As a result of this canvass, <br />the following comments are appropriate: <br /> <br />l. There is a great need for the establish- <br />ment of a central meeting clearinghouse. <br />Unfortunately, many important meetings are <br />now scheduled at the same time or during the <br />same week which, in many cases, prevents <br />adequate representation at the meetings. <br /> <br />2. During the past three years, there has been <br />a large increase in the number of specialized <br />conferences and meetings dealing with various <br />phases of the environment. If we are to learn <br />from the past, it appears that more similar <br />meetings will be scheduled in the future. <br /> <br />3. At the present time, we do not have access <br />to any organization which catalogs such meetings <br />and keeps a current list available. While many <br />magazines include a listing of important meetings, <br />such lists are not complete and are usually con- <br />cerned with a narrow field. <br /> <br />/..\) Cj\) <br />
