<br />001383 <br /> <br />GLOSSARY OF WATER MANAGEMENT TERMS <br /> <br />, <br />WASTE WATER--Tha.t water for which disposal is more econanical than <br />treatment, if necessary, and reuse at the point of its occurrence. <br />Waste water to one user may be a desirable supply to the same or <br />another user at a different location. <br /> <br />WASTE~ATER Rl!X:LAMATION--The process of restoring water fran municipal, <br />industrial and agricultural waste for beneficial purposes, whether <br />by means of special facilities or through natural processes. <br /> <br />WATER BUlJGET--8ee HYDROLOOIC BUOOET. <br /> <br />WATER DEMAlID SCHEDULE--.A schedule of the water requirements for a <br />particular purpose, as for irrigation, power, municipal supply, <br />plant transpiration, and so forth. <br /> <br />WATER QUALITY--A te:nn used to describe the chemiCal, physiCal, and <br />biological characteristics Of ,water in respect to its suitability <br />for a particular purpose. The same water may be of good quality for <br />one purpose or use, while bad for another. <br /> <br />WATER Rm;l.UIREMENT (AGRICULTURAL)--The total quantity of water, regardless <br />of its source, required by crops for their normal growth under <br />field conditions. It may include water applied in irrigation, <br />precipitation, and ground water available to the crops. <br /> <br />WATER RIGHT--A legaJ.ly protected right, granted by law, to take possession <br />of water occurring in a water supply and to divert that water and put <br />it to beneficial use. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />WATER SALVAGE--8ee SALVAGED WATER. <br /> <br />WATERSHED MANAGEMENT--The analysis, protection, developnent, operation, <br />and maintenance of a drainage basin for the optimum control and <br />conservation Of all, its resources including the quality, quantity, <br />and timing of water produced by the basin. <br /> <br />WATER TABLE--The upper surface of a zone of saturation, except where <br />that surface is fo:nned by an impermeable body. <br /> <br />WATER YEAR--A continuous 12-month period Of time for which water records <br />a.re canpJ.ied and summarized.
