<br />001382 <br /> <br />GLOOSARY OF WATER MANAGEMENT TERMS <br /> <br />l-TlN <br /> <br />'l!AOOIBLE BEJolEFITS--Those benefits that can be expressed in 1lI0netary <br />te11lls based on or derived from actual or simulated market prices for the <br />products or services, or, in the absence of such measures of benefits, <br />the cost of the alternative means that would most likely be utilized <br />to prOVide equivalent products or services. <br /> <br />TANGIBLE DAMAGES--Those damages that can be evaluated in monetary te11lls. <br /> <br />TERTIARY TREATMENT--In sewage treatment, additimal treatment of effluent <br />beYOnd that Of secondary treatment, in order to obtain a very high <br />quality of effluent. <br /> <br />THERMAL STRATIFlCATION--A condition in a lake in which definable layers <br />of water have unique temperature characteristics ~Ihich are different <br />than those of the adjacent layer or layers. See EPILn.lNION, <br />mERMOCLINE, AIID HYPOLIMNION. <br /> <br />TllERMOCLINE--That layer in a body of water having thermal stratification, <br />for which the temperature difference is greatest per unit of depth <br />(usually equal to or greater than 10 C per meter). This layer <br />separates the epilimnion fran the hypolimnion. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />UNIMPAIRED FLaY--See INFERRED NATURAL FLCM. <br />UNIMPAIRED RUNOFF'--See INFERRED NATURAL roNOFF'. <br /> <br />VACANT PUBLIC LANDS--Public lands which are unappropriated and unreserved. <br /> <br />VISlTOR-DAY--Twelve visitor-hours of recreation use. (It may be canposed <br />of one person visiting for 12 hOUrs, twelve persons for 1 hour <br />each, and so forth. A visitor-hOlU' is canposed of one person <br />visiting for 60 minutes, five persons for 12 minutes each, and , <br />so forth. One overnight 24-hour v:l.sit would consist of 2 visitor-da.ys.) <br /> <br />
