<br />GLOSSARY OF WA'l'ER MANAGEMENT TERM3 <br /> <br />DAY SECO:ND FE.ET--5ee cfs-DAY. <br /> <br />DEAD STORAGE CAPACITY --Reservoir capacity below the lowest outlet level of <br />a reservoir and not susceptible to gravity release. <br /> <br />DEBRIS--Any material, including floating trash, suspended sediment, or <br />bed load, moved by a flOldng stream. <br /> <br />DEEP PERcOLATION--In a geologic sense, the amount of water that is lost <br />from a basin by leakage through the geologic fonnation. <br /> <br />DEFLATION (LAND)--The removal of material from a beach or other land <br />surface by wind action. <br /> <br />DmREE MY--Variation of 1 degree per day in mean de.!I.l;y temperature <br />from an adopted reference temperll.ture. Degree days may be above or <br />below the reference and may be accUlllUlated algebrll.ically for any specified <br />period of time. ' <br /> <br />DEMAND--The numerical expression of the desire for goods and services <br />associated with an economic standard for their attainment. <br /> <br />DEMAND (PCMER)--The rate at which electric energy is delivered to or by <br />a system, part of a system, or piece of equipnent, expressed in <br />kilowatts or other suitable unit, at a given instant or averaged over <br />any designated period of time. <br /> <br />DEMAND (WATER)--Those quantities of water that will be bought at all possible <br />prices at a specified time, place, and quality. <br /> <br />DEMAND SCHEDULE (WATER)--A mont~ breakdown of the total water that a <br />water user intends to use during any year. <br /> <br />DEPENDABLE CAPACITY (PGIER)--The load-carrying ability of a station or <br />system under adverse conditions for the time interval and period <br />specified when related to the characteristics of the load to be supplied. <br />Dependable capacity Of a system includes net firm power purchases. <br /> <br />DENNDABLE SUPPLY (WATER)--That water which can be expected to be <br />ave.ilable at the time a.nd place, and having the quality demanded. <br />Sometimes considered the amount of water available a stated <br />percentage of the time. <br /> <br />DEPENDABLE YJELD--5ee FIRM YIELD. <br /> <br />DEPLETION (GROOND-WATER)--The withdrawal Of' water from a ground_ter source <br />at a rate greater than its rate of replenishment. <br /> <br />l-D <br /> <br />
