<br />Total storage in the five main stem reservoirs as of the close of

<br />October was 27,681,000 acre-feet. This represents 'a, gain of 4,401,000
<br />
<br />acre-feet over "ater in storage on the same date a year ago.

<br />During the month final adjustment was made in the distribution of
<br />
<br />storage among the three lowermost reservoirs- Oabe, Fort Randall and Gavins
<br />
<br />Point--in anticipation of the forthcoming transition to winter operations
<br />
<br />which will take place with the end of the navigation season.
<br />
<br />A new coincidental power generation record of 736,000 kilowatts was
<br />
<br />
<br />established on October 26. The previous record of 726,000 was set on
<br />
<br />August 22 of this year. Total power generated in October at the four main
<br />
<br />stem powerplants amounted to 347 million kilowatt hours.
<br />
<br />Commercial navigation on the lower Missouri continued at record levels
<br />
<br />during October. By the close of October, the commercial tonnage for the
<br />
<br />
<br />1960 season on.the Missouri had reached an unofficial estimate of 1,311,210
<br />
<br />tons.

<br />October operations at the individual reservoirs of the main stem sys-

<br />tem were as follm,s:

<br />Gavins Point Reservoir
<br />
<br />October releases of water from Gavins Point Dam totaled 1,639,000
<br />
<br />acre-feet, all of ,"lhich passed through the power turbines. Total energy
<br />
<br />generated at this project in October amounted to 60 million kilowatt hours.
<br />
<br />Fort Randall Reservoir
<br />
<br />Releases from Fort Randall totaled 1,556,000 acre-feet in October, all
<br />
<br />of which passed through the power turbines. Power generation at Fort Randall
<br />
<br />in October totaled 156 million kilowatt hours.
<br />
<br />Oabe Reservoir
<br />
<br />October releases of water from Oabe totaled 1,395,000 acre-feet.
