See ISMP handbook.

IV. Goals, Objectives, End Product:

Colorado sauawfish
The objectives of the post-larval survey are: 2) to develop annual
indices of the relative abundance of YOY Colorado squawfish, 2) to
determine trend in these indices, and 3) to determine relationships
between these indices and streamflow, water temperature, abundance of
sympatric fishes, and physical characteristics of backwaters.

The objectives of the late-juvenile/adult monitoring program are: ~) to
develop annual indices of relative abundance for late-juvenile/adult
Colorado squawfish and sympatric species, 2) to determine trends in the
late juvenile/adult Colorado squawfish population, and 3) to determine
relationships between these indices and other..environmental parameters.

To date, ISMP efforts have been directed at trend data. An objective
for FY~998 will be obtaining data that will allow an estimation for the
population of adult Colorado squawfish in the Middle Green River.

Humoback chub
Humpback chub monitoring will be expanded in ~998. The objectives of
humpback chub surveys are: ~) to develop annual indices of the relative
abundance of YOY humpback chub (Gila) and sympatric species, 2) to
determine trend in these indices, 3) to determine relationships between
these indices and other environmental parameters, 4) to develop annual
indices of relative abundance for late-juvenile/adult humpback chub and
sympatric species, 5) to determine trends in the late juvenile/adult
humpback chub population, and 6) to determine relationships between
these indices and other environmental parameters.

An objective for ~998 will be obtaining data that will allow an
estimation for the population of adult humpback chub. A population
estimate will be made on Westwater Canyon, Cataract Canyon and
Desolation/Gray Canyon.

V. Study area:

Colorado sauawfish: Eight standard sites on Green and Colorado rivers.
A total of two additional "elective" reaches, of 8 to 18 river miles,
will be surveyed each year, the location to be rotated every three to
four years. Population estimate will be made in the Middle Green River.

Humoback chub: Westwater Canyon (Miners Cabin @ RM 124.3-~24.~, Cougar
Bar @ RM ~21.5-~2~, and Hades @ RM ~20.~-1~9.8), Desolation/Gray Canyon
(RM ~84.4', ~74', ~60', and ~45'), Cataract Canyon (RM 2~~.2', 207.5', and
206.6')

VI. Study Methods/Approach: See ISMp handbook (to be revised) .

Colorado sauawfish

2
