Goals: Use standardized data collection techniques
to assess the status and trends in populations of
endangered Colorado squawfish, and in populations of
sympatric fish species.

B. Objectives (FY-97):

1. Monitor late-juvenile/adult Colorado squawfish
populations in the Colorado, White, and Yampa
Rivers.
2. Monitor post-larval/Age-O Colorado squawfish
populations in the Colorado River.
3. Monitor sympatric fish species I populations in
the Colorado, White, and Yampa Rivers.

C. End Product: Ongoing program to determine the status
and population trends of endangered fish species and
fishes that occur in association with them.

V. Study area (including river miles and sampling dates if
appropriate) :

A. Colorado River:

1. Late-juvenile/adult Colorado squawfish: RM 132.0
- 152.0. Bympatric fishes: RM 132.0 - 170.0,
the first 2 miles in each five mile reach (1 mile
along right bank and then 1 mile along left
bank) .
2. post-larval/Age-O Colorado squawfish: RM 140.0 -
170.0.

B. White River: Late-juvenile/adult Colorado squawfish:
RM 95.0 104.3. Sympatric fishes: RM 98.0
100.0, 102 - 104 (1 mile along right bank and then 1
mile along left bank) .

C. Yampa River: Late-juvenile/adult Colorado squawfish:
RM 49.0 54.0, 70.0 80.0, 95.0 105.0.
Sympatric fishes: the first 2 miles in each five
mile reach for the areas listed above for Colorado
squawfish (1 mile along right bank and then 1 mile
along left bank).

VI.

Study Methods/Approach:

Monitoring is performed in
