..

.

.

-4-

The preceding table shows that of the total quantity of waters reaching
Mexico in the first six months of 1972, about 70% was from the river
above Imperial Dam, i.e., primarily from storage, and the remaining 30%
from the return flows to the river below that Dam, not including returns
from the Imperial Dam desilting basins nor gate leakages.

3. Salinity of Colorado River Ivaters Delivered to Mexico from
Imperial Dam

Colorado River waters above Imperial Dam delivered to Mexico had an
average salinity of about 832 ppm in the period November 16, 1971
through June 30, 1972, a decrease of 24 ppm under the average for the
comparable period of the previous operation year. The average salinities
of waters from above Imperial Dam delivered to Mexico in 1965 and for the
past six years and seven and one-half months of operations under Minute
No. 218 are tabulated below:

SALINITY OF COLORADO RIVER WATERS DELIVERED
TO MEXICO FROM lllPERIAL DAM

Operation
Year

Average Salinity
ppin

Previous year to
Agreement Operations

1965

910

1966
1967
1968
1969
1970
1971
1972'~

894
799
809
830
851
848
832

*November 16, 1971 through June 30, 1972

4. Salinity of Return Flows to Colorado River Below Imperial Dam

The principal sources of the more saline return flows are as follows:

a) The Wellton-Mohawk Drainage \'laters. The largest source of
return flm,s below Imperial Dam comprise the drainage waters
