Types~. Four soii series comprise the irrigable iahd of fhe <br />area. These are ilesignated by the Bureau of . Soils as' Grundy, <br />Boldrege, Colby, and Wabash... (6): .' <br /> <br />qruru:ly. . The Grundy series is characteri~ed by a brownish ~lack <br />surface soil 10 to 12 inches deep,. underlain by 6 to .10 in~he~ of <br />I'lightly lighter brown subsurface a little heavier in ~xture than the <br />I'urface. At.a depth of 16 to 22 inches this changes quite abruptly to <br />a heavy textured., tenacious, brownish black to brownish drab. subsoil. <br />This layer is usually from 9 to 12. inches thick and passes again qUite <br />abruptly into a drab colored, floury, friable .parent soilmaterialwhi~h <br />extends to considerable depth without change. The topography is flat <br />to slightly rolling and the drainage. is usually. well establi'shed. ..... . <br /> <br />The only Grundy type in this area is the Grundy loam. . It <br />occupie3 the extreme eastern end of the proposed irrigation area, not <br />extending any further west than Juniata and Prosser.
