OOOC.37

"

.

.,

.

16

Haintaining the Hi Vel' at Ln Junta. Continued

Hov.ever. the (IlJ1()unt in prospect and the aotu, 1 amount passing La
Junta for the antioipated period do not agree. Hr. Hheeler
_kes his analysis of the situation on the basis of the evidence
at hand at reporting time. As I rave said tl'e prospeotive =Ollnt
of water. the amount passing La Junta plus too inflow from the
Purgatoire. seemed adequate. And it would have in all propo.b-
i11 ty been adequate if the river at La JWlta had Z"el!lll.ined the
same during tne day as it was at reporting time. The hoW' at
the La Junta which corresponds to the hour at the Amity. wren
the lImity started dropping below 283 s.f. was lQAll 8/2.

The l.a JWlta Chart indio""tes that the riv er started fb.l1ing at
l.a JWlta at l0Al1 8/2 and by 6PH 8/2 there \'las a deorease in dis-
charge at this station of about 100 s.f. After dropping 100
s.f. the riVer remained steady until 6Al'l 813. at which time the
amount passing Vias il1Oreased. and by 6l'tl 8/3. the lllllCl1mt pass-
ing ms about the S81lB as for 1001 8/2. It is evident from
these facts that the river ViaS not maintained frOlll lOAM 8/2 -
6PN 8/3. The decrease in -the amount passing La Junta (H),\I'1 8/2-
6PH 8/3) and the subsequent increase in the amount passing (6PH
8/3 12N 8;4) are coincidental with a corresponding increase in
di Version by the Ft. Lyon. and a decrease in diversion by the
Ft. Lyon.

It would appear that for about half of the 48 hour period. dur-
ing which the Ft. loron was diverting water belonging to the
lImity, the ordered go.ge a-t La Junta vas not being maintained.

For the last 24 hoW's of this period the ordered gage for I.a
Junta appears not to have been high enough -1;0 oompensate for
the decreasing inflow from Purgatoire.

At 6A11 8/4 the amount in prospect passing froLl District ',;"17 to
Di strict ',';67 seems to have been too low.

8/4 l.a Junta station - 6MI 8/4 G.R. 3.34 -------- 197 s.f.
Purgatoire - 9 mile st. - 6.'ui 8;4 a.H. 2.68 -- 153
;;tJ s. f.

The abOVe total is 50 s.f. under the passing order of 400 s.f.
