<br /> <br />NEBRASKA RESOURCES WINTER, 1997/p.5 <br /> <br />The Nebraska Natural Resources Commission <br />consists of 16 members. Three of those members are <br />appointed by the governor to represent the specific <br />interests of; municipal water users, surface water <br />irrigators, and ground walerirrigators. The remaining <br />thirteen members are elected to four-year terms at <br />caucuses of the Natural Resources Districts directors <br />in Nebraska's river basins. <br />Six River Basin Caucuses were held in January <br />to select members of the Nebraska Natural Resources <br />Commission. The caucuses resulted in the election of <br />five incumbents to new four-year terms (Wayne Davis- <br />Niobrara-White-Hal Basin. Richard Mercer-Middle Plane <br />Basin, Roy Slewart-Elkhorn Basin, Donald Roberts- <br />RepUblican Basin, and Joseph Hergott-unle Blue Basin). <br />LeRoy Pieper 01 Mitchell was newly elected 10 a four.year <br />term on the Commission representing the North Platte <br />Basin. His 22 years of service <br />represent the longest tenure on the Commission by any <br />individual member. <br />The Nebraska Natural Resources Commission, at <br />its annual organizational meeting held January 30, 1997. <br />elected officers for the coming year. Elected to one-year <br />terms were Roy A. Travel, <br />- <br />and Bridge <br />- <br /> <br />Beverly was born and raised in South Dakota where <br />she developed a fondness for nature and the outdoors at an <br />early age. She and her husband Bill, who have two adult <br />children, moved to Omaha in 1960. She isa retired primary <br />school teacher who has also been employed with private <br />pre-school. the insurance industry and travel industry. She <br />is very involved with volunteer work and has served on <br />several boards for charitable organizations, She is a past <br />chairperson on the Papio-Missouri Tribs NRD Board and <br />has served as Treasurer of the Nebraska Association of <br />Resources Districts Executive Board. <br /> <br /> <br />II <br />~ <br /> <br />,-- <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Name: LeRoy Pieper <br />Representing: <br />North Platte River Basin <br />Hometown: Mitchell <br />Hobbies: Golf, Travel, and <br />Goose Hunting <br />- <br /> <br />LeRoy was born and raised in Scons Bluff County, <br />Nebraska and lives on the same land his father farmed in <br />1910. He began farming at the age of 17 after his father <br />passed away. He is married with three grown children and <br />10 grandchildren, He is a retired farmer who has worked <br />close to natural resources all his life, "lived with it all my <br />life. when you farm. an interest in natural resources is just <br />part of il.- For the past 12 years he has been a member <br />of the North Platte NRD Board of Directors and has <br />served as Chairperson for the past six years. <br />
