002243

Durango Pumoing Plant - Stage]

(

b.

N5W to N20W, and dips 67 to 82 degrees northeast. The joints are widely
to very widely spaced (1.0 to 5.0 feet). Another joint set strikes from
N74W to N80W and dips between 65 and 85 degrees northeast. A third
joint set strikes from N75W to N88E and ranges from vertical to a dip of
65 degrees southeast. The latter two joint sets are very widely spaced (3.0
to 10.0 feet) to extremely widely space (greater than 10.0 feet).

Adjacent to an exposure offault F-l near the bridge on U.S. Highway 550,
a prominent joint set in the Menefee Fonnation strikes from N32E to
N68E and dips 44 to 52 degrees southeast. The joints are moderately to
widely spaced (0.9 to 3.0 feet), and open to about 0.3 feet at the surface.
A prominent joint set in the Point Lookout Sandstone at this location
strikes from N4E to N1 OE and dips 61 to 70 degrees northwest. These
joints are closely to moderately spaced (0.3 to 1.6 feet).

Joints which are tight to moderately open (0.003 to 0.01 feet) were
encountered during drilling of the weathered zone usually within the top
ten feet of rock. The joints are often iron stained with occasional coatings
of gypsum, calcite, or pyrite. Joints at greater depths are mostly tight as
confirmed by drill hole permeability testing.

Ajoint survey was performed in April 1996 near the intake of Durango
Pumping Plant. The survey was located along the Animas River bank
below high water line within the Point Lookout Sandstone. All joints
were measured which intersected a line approximately 245 feet long with
a bearing of approximately N40W. An additional 5 joints located on an
outcrop above the survey line were also measured. The approximate
location of the joint survey is shown on drawing No. 69-529-5 and the
data is summarized in Table 00320B below.

Table 00320B

c,

d.

Table 00320B - JOINT SURVEY - APRIL 1996
#of Distanc Strike/dip Spacing Continuity Openness Roughness Moisture
joints e
(feet)
I] 3-22 N73-80W, 62NE- SP3 ave.
