.1

000333

(g) Assess potentials for water reuse and water salvage to be

followed with plans for development where economical and

consistent with environmental and other objectives.

(h) Initiate studies of potentials for augmenting the Colorado

River. Sources such as desalting of geothermal and sea water

will be examined. Weather modification opportunities will

be evaluated and opportunities for reclamation and reuse of

water analyzed.

.
(i) Identify special situations for detailed study such as Pyramid

Lake, Salton Sea, and estuarial problem areas.

Principles of Study

The Westwide investigations will encompass a multiple-objective

approach to planning consisting of the entire rsnge of physical,

economic, social, and environmental factors relating to water and

water-related resource development. Yet it must build from where

we are today in establishing a foundation for meeting the needs of

tomorrow. When reasoned judgments dictate, consideration will be

given to modifications of existing and proposed c1evelopments and

to the redirection of current and proposed study efforts to fit

into the general plan for the Western United States. Basic

principles which underlie the stuclies will:

1.
