<br />000512 <br /> <br />Boat ramps are provided at the McPhee and House Creek complexes, Light <br />boating craft - small boats, sailboats, canoes, kayaks, and rafts may also be <br />launched at fisherman access points. <br /> <br />The Forest Service is responsible for management and operation and operation <br />of water-oriented facilities and shoreline areas of the reservoir. <br /> <br />The Colorado Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation is responsible for the <br />licensing of boats, the supervision and inspection of safety equipment, and <br />enforcement of state boating laws and regulations. The Montezuma County <br />Sheriff will also have law enforcement responsibilities on the water and in <br />the area. <br /> <br />3, Water-skiing and Swimming <br /> <br />Due to the speed necessary for water-skiing, this activity is restricted to <br />the main body of the reservoir or high-speed boating areas. If conflicts <br />arise due to this activity that are greater than anticipated, additional <br />zoning or restrictions may be necessary. <br /> <br />Swimming is not allowed in the boat launching and docking areas. A <br />swimming/beach development is being considered at the House Creek complex. <br />However, the seasonal reservoir fluctuations make the feasibility of this <br />type of facility questionable. <br /> <br />4, Picnicking and Camping <br /> <br />Picnic and camping facilities are being developed at the two major complexes, <br />McPhee and House Creek. Family campgrounds provide for tent and recreation <br />vehicle camping, and two-family units and family picnic grounds provide for <br />both single and two-family units, Group facilities are provided for both <br />picnicking and camping. Group sites are operated and managed on a <br />reservation system. <br /> <br />5. Hiking <br /> <br />Trails will be provided for access to the reservoir shoreline from day use <br />and overnight-use facilities, and for access between these facilities with a <br />major complex, Shoreline trails will not be provided because the fluctuation <br />of the reservoir would leave such trails in inconvenient locations most of <br />the time, <br /> <br />Interpretive facilities will be provided at appropriate locations in the <br />major complexes. These will be planned and developed through a visitor <br />information plan, <br /> <br />6. Sightseeing and Scenic Driving <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />Few opportunities exist to provide sightseeing points of interest due to the <br />topographic configuration of the reservoir, Scenic overlooks, parking and <br />turnouts are provided along access roads and within the major recreation <br />complexes. A major scenic overlook of the main body of the reservoir has <br />been developed at the McPhee Recreation complex, <br /> <br />14 <br />
