ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR CODEPT <br /> <br /> <br />002742 <br /> <br />(Colorado River \oIeather Modification Demonstration ~rojec~) <br />March through August 1977 <br /> <br />In March 1977, the North American Interstate Weather Modification Council <br /> <br />provided the sample letter in support of the Bureau's FY 1978 planning on the <br /> <br />program. Also during the month, the NAIWMC wrote letters indicating its full <br /> <br />support to all the Basin States' Congressional Delegations, its Governors, and <br /> <br />to both Appropriation Committees of the U. S, House of Representatives and the <br /> <br />U. S. Senate (see last letters in Attachments A), <br /> <br />The Southwestern Water Conservation District of Colorado provided testi- <br /> <br />mony before the Subcommittee on Public Works, Committee on Appropriations, <br /> <br />U. S. Senate on March 28, 1977, The testimony appears as the last two pages <br /> <br />in Attachments B. <br /> <br />Other letters or statements in support of the weather modification demon- <br /> <br />stration program of the Bureau of Reclamation in the Colorado River Basin have <br /> <br />been received by the Executive Secretary of the NAIWMC. Such letters are <br /> <br />included in Attachments C. The NAIWMC has not received letters of non-support <br /> <br />from any organization as of this publication date, <br /> <br />Additional information concerning the Colorado River Augmentation Program <br /> <br />is provided at the end of Attachments D: <br /> <br />1. Page 65 of U. S, Senate Report No, 95-301 (Public Works <br />for Water and Power Development and Energy Research <br />Appropriation Bill, 1978). This June 25, 1977 report <br />provides FY 1978 funding of $600,000 for the program. <br /> <br />2. Department of the Interior news release on August 11, <br />1977 provides information on several kinds of mountain <br />weather situations that can be treated to produce signi- <br />ficant increases in snowfall and its resulting runoff. <br /> <br />Further Council activities on this program includes the tentative planning of <br /> <br />a November/December 1977 meeting between the Colorado River Basin States.
