One of the alternative routes for conveying water from

Crystal River to West Divide Creek would involve a canal that would

pass through the Thompson Creek, Garfield Creek and East Divide Creek

areas. This canal would: (1) provide a means of water service for the

Thompson Creek area that would be an alternative to. the Yank ,Creek;,

Reservoir - Fourmile Canal system included in the present plan;

(2) consider the needs for municipal and domestic water for the

Garfield Creek area that will not receive project w~ter nnder the

,present plan; and (3) serve as alternative to East Divide Canal in

providing service for the East Divide Creek area.

This alternative was considered in previous planning work

but merits further consideration because of changes in anticipated

water needs, and changes in construction methods and costs.

Further study will be made of storage sit,es on West Divide

Creek both as alternative and as additions to the Haystack Reservoir

site. These studies will be correlated to the evaluation of the

alternative Crystal River-West Divide Creek routes.

The requirements and time of need for municipal and industrial

water will be reanalysed and consideration will be given to possible

stage development of the project to conform with projected water needs.

Environment effects of the project will be evaluated and an

environmental statement prepared. Past comments made by a few individ-

uals and groups indicate that there will bQ at least some opposition'to

Placita Reservoir by environmental groups. There may also be objections

to some of the canal routes planned for the project.
