<br />.. <br /> <br />0'00558 <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />WEST DIVIDE PROJECT <br /> <br />Authori~ation <br /> <br />The West Divide Project was authorized for construction on <br /> <br />September 30, 1968 under Public Law 90-537 based on findings of a <br />feasibility report dated March 1966. <br /> <br />Project Plan and Purposes <br /> <br />The project is located in west-central Colorado and will be <br /> <br />a multi-purpose development. Water supplies will be developed for <br /> <br />irrigation and municipal and industrial uses. The project will also <br /> <br /> <br />provide benefits to recreation, fish and wildlife, and flood control~ <br /> <br />Most of the project water supply will be' obtained from <br /> <br />, <br />, <br />I <br />I ~ <br />I <br />, <br />I <br />'-- <br /> <br />Crystal River but flows of North Thompson 'Creek, West Divide Creek <br /> <br />and tributariea of Muddy Creek will also be utilized. <br /> <br />Reservoir storage will be provided at the 'Placita site on <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />Crystal River, the Yank Creek site on North Thompson Creek and the <br /> <br />Haystack Bite on Willow Creek, a tributary of West Divide Creek. <br /> <br />Placita Reservoir will have a storage capacity of 105,660 <br /> <br />acre-feet and a surface area of 748 acres. Water from the reservoir <br /> <br />will be conveyed to West Divide Creek by the Huntsman Canal which <br /> <br />will be about 25 miles in length and will include two tunnels with <br /> <br />lengths of about 3 and 14 miles. Surplus flows of l~e Creek and <br /> <br />Clear Fork, both tributaries of East Muddy Creek, will be diverted <br /> <br />into the ~anal for project use. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Haystack Reservoir will store surplus natural flows of <br /> <br />Willow Creek and feeder canal importations from West Divide Creek. <br />
