For
piping, the estimated salt-load reduction would be 820 tons at a cost
of $7,000,000, which results in a cost effectiveness of $750 per ton.

.

Brush Creek Area

The Brush Creek area joint project was not investigated due to lack of
manpower and other work priorities. Using Price-San Rafael Rivers
Unit joint project costs, a cost effectiveness of $129 per ton was
estimated. This is based on a salt-load reduction of 1.1 tons per
acre and a total project cost of $142 per acre.

Whiterocks-East Uinta Area

The Whiterocks-East Uinta area joint project was not investigated due
to lack of manpower and other work priorities. Based on Reclamation
data, projects in this area would not be cost effective. There may be
some isolated areas of higher salinity; however, additional data
collection and studies would be needed to verify this possibility.

RECLAMATION ONLY PROGRAM

Brush Creek Area

The Brush Creek area canals were studied in the greatest detail due to
the lack of any previous data and the possibility of a cost-effective
project. Salt-load reduction estimates are based on canal seepage
measurements and Uinta Basin Stage I studies. The cost estimates are
based on January 1989 prices. As shown in table 3, all of the costs
per ton are greater than $100, which indicate the project is not cost
effective.

.

My ton Townsite Canal

Table 4 contains an incremental analysis for lining shorter lengths of
My ton Townsite Canal. This subarea is the next most cost effective
after the areas which are included in the recommended plan for
phase I.

The salt reduction is based on previous mass balance studies for My ton
Townsite Canal, and the costs are based on January 1989 prices. As
shown in table 4, lining about 3.2 miles of My ton Townsite Canal
(reaches 1, 3, and 6) would be cost effective on a cumulative basis.
This would remove about 2,150 tons of salt at an annual cost of
$192,650, which results in a cumulative cost effectiveness of $90 per
ton.

.

5
