May 16, 1988 Kenneth Pitney Status Report Uinta Basin Expansion Background: When the USDA Salinity Report for the Uinta 8asin was pre- pared, various areas of irrigated lands within the Uinta Basin were not included within the salinity project boundaries. These areas are generally not contiguous with the irrigated lands in the project area. Landowners in four areas which are outside the project have requested that the USDA Uinta salinity project boundaries be expanded to include their irrigated lands. This would allow them to participate in the Colorado River Salinity Control Program. USDA has looked into this matter and has recently compiled some addi- tional information on the four areas which have requested inclusion in the program. The general locations of the areas are described below and are shown on the attached map. Green River - This area lies east of the Uinta Salinity Project boundary and encompasses 5,766 acres of irrigated land. The irrigated areas are scattered along the Green River from the Dinosaur National Monument, south to White River, just below Ouray. This area, which includes 6,818 acres of irrigated land, lies immediately west of the Uinta Project boundary and extends up the Duchesne River Valley. The Bureau of Reclamation and the Central Utah Water Conservancy District are presently doing major canal rehabilitation in the area. Tabiona/Hanna - This area is located about 20 miles west of the Uinta Salinity Project boundary and includes 3,250 acres irrigated land. Strawberry River - This area is located along the Strawberry River west of the Uinta Salinity Project boundary and contains 1,000 acres of irrigated land. Fruitland -
