"

.

.

- 4 -

streambed and 1,207 feet long ,at the crest. A canal 45 miles long on the west

side of the Williams and one 15 miles long on' the east side \/ould be constructed

to deliver water to project lands. In addition, an existing ditch about 20 miles

long would be enlarged.

The I'1iddle Park Conservancy District made a filing on the Ute Park Re-

servoir, which w(l.s accepted in the State Engineer's office on November 1, 1954

as No. 19966. It viaS stated in this filing that the maximum height of dam is

220 feet and the total capacity of the reservoir 73,248 acre feet, for which

claim is made for irrigation purposes, Work was commenced by survey on

September,8, 1954.

Shortly after the vote on the Denver bond issue for the expansion of

the City's transmountain water system, the question arose within the Bureau as

to the advisability of pt'o ceeding vlith studies on the Parshall project in view

of the intention of Denver to enlarge Williams Fork Reservoir and perhaps extend

the \.illiams Fork collection system.

A meeting was held in our office on September 22, 1955 vdth representatives

of the Bureau of Reclamation and the Denver Hater Board, to discuss what allow-

ances should be made in water supply studies for the Parshall project for future

uses by Denver. It appeared that if Denver enlarged the reservoir to 93,000

acre feet, and expanded the vfilliams Fork collection system, there would be an

inadequate supply for the Parshall project.

There was some discussion of the matter at a subsequent meeting of the

Water Conservation Board on November 29, and a second meeting was held in our

office on December 16, 1955. In addition to representatives of this Board, the

Denver Board and the Bureau of Reclamation, the Middle Park Conservancy District

0752
