.M

~Q'(..O

the river will not have Point Flow data. For example, the short reach of the Cache
La Poudre below CLAGRECO will not have Point Flow data because it is bounded
on its lower end by the confluence into the South Platte where there is no gauge.
Another excluded area would be Boulder Creek upstream from the Grodell gauge
(BOCOROCO) because there is no gauge to determine the upstream end of this
reach.

The following information will be required as input for the calculations:

. Points of interest on the river; diversion structures, stream gauges, conflu-
ences, and locations of estimated inflows. These are all currently handled by
SPWRMS. though some modifications will be needed to enable the Point Flow
computations to use the information. Confluences and locations of estimated
inflows will be added to an Arc/Info coverage so the application can discern the
location of these points on the river system. Recognition of locations of estimated
inflows will be added to the SPWRMS internal topology. Stream gauges will be
attributed to indicate that they are measuring instream flows (and are relevant to
the Point Flow computations). The set of points of interest currently managed by
SPWRMS is adequate to perform the calculations.

. Distance between points of interest. This information is currently available in
SPWRMS.

.

Flow at points on the river. Satellite stream flow data and known points of zero
flow will define reaches within which Point Flow calculations will be performed.
Stream flow datawill be averaged over a twenty four hour period to produce a
daily value to be used with information from the Water Information Sheet for that
given day. Zero flow points are retrieved from information entered by Water Com-
missioners on the Water Information Sheet.

Diversions. The total flow of water being taken from the river at each major diver-
sion structure are retrieved from the Water Information Sheets.

Inflows. Spot readings of estimated inflow are available from the Water Informa-
tion Sheets. When a reach includes an inflow from a tributary that is managed by
SPWRMS, a measured value at a gauge some distance up the tributary will be used
as an inflow value.

.

.

Point Flow calculations will generate daily output values for the current water year. Users
can view results for any day in the water year through the day preceding the current day.
Today'svalues will not be available due to incomplete satellite stream flow data for the
current day. The UNIX application will not write any output files to disk, as all the data
can be managed internally. Point flow output, directed to the PC application, will consist
of the following elements:

. Points of interest on the river. A list of the points considered in the calculations
will be output for the PC application. This list will be a subset of all known points
of interest on the river because some points do not fall on reaches handled by the
Point Flow computations.

. Flow above and below each point of interest. Daily values of flows above and
below each point of interest will be generated for the PC application.

. Gain at each subreach. Daily values of gain between each point of interest (sub-
reach) will be generated for the PC application.
