Montrose
County averaged 13.2~ while Mesa County averaged 12.0~. These high
unemployment rates are due to depressed uranium prices, mine closings,
depressed ranching industry, and the oil shale bust. The unemployment rates
have increased to the point that Delta, Mesa (including the City of Grand
Junction), Montrose,*~uray, Saguache, and San Juan Counties are designated as
labor surplus areas.

Source:

*

Colorado Labor Force Review,
first eight months of 1987.
Colorado Labor Force Review,

Data Supplement, 1987.
