1.0 Getting Started

1.2 Installation

1.2.1 Version Number

If SPWRMS is currently installed on your PC, check the version
number under the Help! About menu. If the version number cur-
rently installed is the same as the version on your new installation
diskette, installation is not necessary.

1.2.2 Backing up tiles

Before installing the new version of SPWRMS (or any other applica-
tion) you may want to back up any files you have created in the South
Plane directory. The batch file install. bat included on the SPWRMS
diskette creates the directory c:'&pwnns and installs the application
.there. Files in this directory may be erased when a new version is
installed.

To safeguard against losing your files, copy them into a backup direc-
tory. preferably on a flo'ppy diskette. The advantages of using a floppy
disk are: that there is less chance of confusing new files and old files,
and that backup on a removable disk is more secure than backup on
your hard drive.

When backing up files, remember to include text files you may have
exponed from the SPWRMS application, as well as Water Informa-
tion Sheets you may have saved to disk (file extension.ifs).

1.2.3 Copying from diskette

When you are sure that your files in the SPWRMS directory are
safely backed up, put the installation diskette in your a: drive and
type a:\install at the DOS prompt. The installation program will copy
all required files onto your hard drive.

1.2.4 Windows Setup

If this is the first time you have installed SPWRMS on your system,
you will need to add the application as a program item within the
Program Manager. To add the program, first be sure the folder in
which you want to install the icon is the active folder. Select File/
New/Program from the Program Managermenu. In the Item
Properties dialog complete the following information:

Description:SPWRMS
Command Line: c:\spwrms\splatte
Working Directory: c:\spwrms

When the SPWRMS icon appears as a new item in your active folder,
wm the application is ready to run.

m1ffi4 2
