Dryland farming assessment
If the region is forced back to dryland farming, this
will have significant economic and social implications
on both the region and the nation. The initial
questions to be examined by this assessment are:
(a) What economic and social impacts will a
decline in ag~icultural production have on
the economic and social structure of the
region?
(b) What will be the impact of a decline in
agricultural production on the related
industries?
(c) How sensitive are the impacts detailed in the
answers to questions (a) and (b) to the rate
of transition from irrigated to dryland farming?
These studies are to completed in time for use both
by the General Contractor in preparing the alternative
policy scenarios and by the state groups in evaluating
the implications of policy alternatives.

.~

(

10.
