00258~

(3' The data base provided by Reclamation personnel at Miles City
for simulated experiments has been subjected to preliminary
statistical tests.

(4) A multivariate test for evaluation of the experiment is being
programmed and is expected to be completed soon.

(5) A simulation experiment has been carried out in which radar
tracks of actual convective complexes were superimposed on hypo-
thetical. rain gage networks. The results permit estimates of the
measurement errors involved in recording rainfall from complexes
of various sizes.

CONTRACTOR: Western Weather Consultants, Inc., Durango, Colorado
CONTRACT NO. 8-07-83-VOOI0
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR: Curtis Hartzell
PERIOD: March 15, 1978 - Continuing
FUNDING: FY78 - $53,500

Work performed under this contract is similar to that done by Western
Scientific Services, Inc., in the 1975-77 field seasons at Miles City
under Contract No. 14-06-D-7665. The contractor provides meteorolog-
ical support services and postseason analysis of data. A computer
data file is being developed and the poststratification of days is
being performed to identify the best predictor variables for objec-
tive weather forecast decision trees. Contractor personnel are also
working closely with Reclamation scientists to develop detailed
suspension criteria for field experiments.

CONTRACTOR: St at e of Wyomi ng
Memorandum of Understanding
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR: Not applicable
PERIOD: January 20, 1978 - Cont inuing
FU ND ING: None

This Memorandum of Understanding provides coordination between the
State of Wyoming and the Bureau of Reclamation for possible future
cloud seeding programs. Should the need for research projects
develop in Wyoming, the State and Reclamation will cooperate in the
planning, design, and execution of scientific research and associated
studies on the social, legal, economic, and environmental implica-
tions. The incorporation of local and State needs and interests will
be an important concern.

II 1-33
