<br />MONTHLY REPORT <br />SAil LUIS VALLEY PROJECT, COLORADO <br />DECEMBER 1955 <br /> <br />Rio Grande Division <br /> <br />On November 29th, 1955, the Project Manager accompanied a <br />group of water users from the Rio Grande Division on a "goodwill tour", <br />which W8S sponsored by the Board of Directors of the San Luis Valley <br />Water Conservanoy District. ' Meetings were held With the Boards of <br />Direotors of the Middle Rio Grande Conservanoy Distriot, Albuquerque, <br />New Mexioo; the Elephant Butte Irrigation Distriot, Les Cruces, lIew <br />Mexioo; and the El Paso County Water Improvement'Association at El Paso, <br />Texas. The trip ended on December 2nd, upon our return to the San Luis <br />Valley. No effort was made to seoure committrnents from people in New <br />Mexico or Texas on sny matter, the purpose of the trip being primarily <br />one of eduoetion, to get acquainted, and to disouss mutusl problems. <br />The reoeption given by each of the Boards visited WBS very good and it <br />is believed that the trip was highly sucoessful. <br /> <br />Closed Basin Division <br /> <br />A meeting of the Cloasd Basin Drain Committee WBS held in <br />the offices of R. J. Tipton, Conllult:l.ng Engineer, in Denver, Colorado, <br />on Deoember 3, 1955, Those present werel <br /> <br />Closed Basin Drain Committee <br />R. J. Sweet, Member, San Luis Valley Project, Bureau <br />of ReolaDllltion <br /> <br />Also present were, <br />Dean Ivan C. Crawford, Direotor, Colorado Water Consel'" <br />vation Board <br />John R. Riter, Bureau of Reolamation <br />Herbert S. Rieebol, Bureau of Reolamation <br />Philip B. Mutz, Colorado Water Conservati.on Board <br /> <br />Mr. 'l'iptOll reviewed, for the benefit of those present, past <br />inveetigutione regarding the salvage of uater by drainafi6 in or near <br />the sump erea of the Closed Basin. Following Mr. Tipton's review, b~. <br />Sweet gave a'brief explanation of a possible plan of development which <br />the Bureau of Reolamation believea bas oonsiderable merit.
