<br />MONTHLY REPORT <br />SAN LUIS VALLEY Pl\OJECT, COLORADO <br />SEPTE:!BER 1955 <br /> <br />Rio Grande Division <br /> <br />During September work was oontinued on the revision of the <br />Supplemental Report on the Rio Grande and Weminuohe Pass Divhions <br />of the Projeot. <br /> <br />On September 13, 1955, the Projeot Manager attended a oon- <br />ferenoe that was held with the Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque, New <br />Mexioo. Messers D. R. Burnett anu R. C. Lord of the Regional Office, <br />and the Projeot Manager represented the Bureau of Reolamation. Dis- <br />oussions oentered on technioal problems encountered in Opervt1on <br />Study lZ-R. <br /> <br />A similar conferenoe was held in the offioe of Mr. R. J. <br />Tipton, ConsulUng Engineer, Colorado Water Conservation Boord in <br />Ilenver on September 20, tit which time agreements were achiev~d re- <br />garding the treatment to be given oertain portlons of the report on <br />this Division during the present revision. <br /> <br />Subsequent to the confercnoe in Mr. Tipton's offioe a con- <br />ference was held in the offices of the Colorado ITater Conservation <br />Board to discuss and resolve technical problems revealed by Operation <br />Study 12-R. This oonforence was continued on the following day in <br />the Bureou Offioes at Denver Federal Center. <br /> <br />By the end of the month Operation Study lZ.R was completed <br />on work shoets and reprOducible copies were being prepared. <br /> <br />Closed Basin Division <br /> <br />A profile was prepared for the entire length of a propoaed <br />al:l.gnmont for the Drain on a oontinuous roll of paper. The presently <br />contemplated plan of development provides for drainaga by means of <br />pumped wells which would discharge into a eurface cilaIDlel, thereby <br />conducting drainage water to the Rio Grande below Alumose. <br /> <br />During the month samples of water were taken from shallow <br />aquifers along the potential location of the drain. Resistance of the <br />water ssmples was measured and recorded together with location of <br />sampling points. <br /> <br />On September 27, the Projeot Manager conferred with Mr. T. <br />G. McLaughlin, District Geologist, Geologioal Survey, regaruing use <br />of d'lta, obtained from pump teots made in the past, in making esti- <br />mates of possible well production. Methods of well consti'uction were <br />also disoussed. <br /> <br />001131'3 <br />
