<br />001293 <br /> <br />7. Public Lands -- For purposes of this document, public lands <br />refers only to that area where the surface is under the <br /> <br />responsibility of BLM. <br /> <br />8. Public Land Island - A body of land above the ordinary <br /> <br />high-water elevation of any meanderable body of water, <br /> <br />except those islands formed in navigable bodies of water <br /> <br />after the date of admission of the State into the Union. <br /> <br />9. Road - For the purpose of the wilderness inventory, a <br /> <br />road is defined as and must meet all of the following: <br /> <br />An access route which has been improved and maintained <br /> <br />by using hand or power machinery or tools to <br /> <br />insure relatively regular and continuous use. A way <br /> <br />maintained solely by the passage of vehicles does not <br /> <br />constitute a road. <br />Words and phrases used in the above definition of "road" are defined as: <br /> <br />Improved and maintained: ~~ere actions have been and will <br /> <br />continue to be direct~d to physically <br /> <br />keep the road open to traffic. <br /> <br />9 <br />
