<br /> <br />, <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Combat Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, for a year in Korea, including <br />the campaign for Heartbreak Ridge. He was awarded the Silver Star, <br />Bronze Star, and the French Croix de Guerre. He then spent two years <br />on military construction with the Japan Construction Agency. <br /> <br />He was a logistical planner after his return to the United States, <br />mainly on military construction programs, with the Standing Group of <br />NATO, serving for three years. After attending the Industrial College <br />of the Armed Forces he was, for three years, District Engineer, Mobile, <br />Alabama, District, working on both water resource and military construc- <br />tion programs. The State of Alabama awarded him its Distinguished <br />Service Medal. <br /> <br />In 1961 he was assigned to Headquarters, U. S. Army, Pacific, Fort <br />Shafter, Hawaii, serving as Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for Logistics, <br />G-4. He was awarded the Legion of Merit. He assumed his present post in <br />1964. <br /> <br />He is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers; a life <br />member of the Permanent International Association of Navigation Congresses, <br />and a member of the Society of American Military Engineers. <br /> <br />He is married to the former Cornelia Gambill of Nashvilie, Tennessee. <br />They have five children. <br /> <br />End <br /> <br />) <br />
