<br />Ob~002 <br /> <br />increase the cost of extracting minerals by about <br />$100,000 annually. <br /> <br />o Designation would not affect nor restrict agricultural <br />uses. <br /> <br />o Overall, adverse impacts on soils and vegetation would <br />not be expected to be significant. <br /> <br />o Designation would aid in the protection of threatened and <br />endangered species habitat. <br /> <br />o Three new campsites and 36.5 miles of trail would be <br />constructed at an estimated cost of $453,000. <br /> <br />Current Leqislation <br /> <br />In 1977, President Carter proposed legislation which would <br />have designated the Dolores as a part of the National System. <br />However, no action was taken by Congress. Later, in 1978, <br />Representative Burton of California introduced an omnibus bill <br />which included the Dolores. Due to local opposition, the Dolores <br />was dropped from this bill.
