0'02308

.

.

3

There has been positive development in the effort to cross-reference
MAQRDB with other databases such as STORET and WATSTi1lRE. Due to the
continued interest by the WFE Team, the EPA has agreed to provide RMMG
with funds to reconstruct and digitize the river reaches in the UCRB.
This is a key to the capability of cross-referencing aquatic databases
such as MAQRDB and Offi'/MANAGE with STORET and WATST!IlRE.

II. Implement and Doa.nnent a Hydrologic Screening Model for the UCRB Using
an Existing Hydrologic Model Which Can Easily be Set Up and 1-bdified,

Following the decision to use I-IYDMSS, as reported in the April progress
report, the task of securing the model from the Bureau of Reclamation,
Billings, Mmtana, took longer than anticipated. The source code for
the model arrived at WELUf in early June,

To date, a sample problem has been set up and TIm successfully. The IOOdel
structure has been modified to fit 50 control points within the UCRB. The
establishment of control points for the UCRB was based upon data input
points (gages), data extraction points where changes occur and biological
information sites. A copy of a tentative node structure is presented as
Exhibit B. Preliminary analysis of HYDRi1lSS indicates that it will be useful
as a screening model which will have the capability of being transferred to
other river basins with similar resource development activities,

Other inferences that can be drawn from a preliminary review of HYDR0SS
are that peripheral programs such as PHABSIM and temperature IOOdel will
be more difficult to interface than had earlier been anticipated, Work on
developing the linkages between HYDRI1lSS, PHABSIM, and the temperature IOOdel
is planned for August and will be completed by September 3D, 1982,

III, ,Observation.

The development of the model and associated database has progressed at a
rapid pace over the past several months due in part to the efforts of
Bob Green, Regional Hydrologist, who joined the WFE Study Team in April.
Bob has been a great help in working with the Bureau of Reclamation and
the I-IYDR0SS model.

IV, Planned July Activities.

A, Database Development.

Tasks planned for July include collection of water rights information
from Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming and working with RMM:i on the river
reach maps for the UCRB.

B. Model Development.

Tasks planned for July include setting up and running several sample
problems using HYDRglSS. Work also will continue on development of data
on water withdrawals and priority of use for modeled rivers in the UCRB,
