"I 0

.

.

Meanwhile, I think you folks will find another use, and a profit-
able use, for Bonny Reservoir. Here on the bare prairie there has come
into being a clear blue lake which eventually will cover some 2,000 acres.
The drawdown will be slight, and the 11 miles of shoreline will be mostly
clean sand beach. Picnic tables, grills, and shade trees are already
being prOVided, and the reservoir area will be managed by your own Colorado
Fish and GaneCommission. As long ago as 1950 they stocked the waters
with 100,000 bluegills, and other fish will be added in the future.
The value of this lake to your general community is hard to
reckon in dollars. But it has a very substantial dollar worth. Bonny
Reservoir lies at least 7S miles from the nearest comparable" body of
water. Fishermen will come to this lake in large numbers. Each fishing
party will buy gas and soft drinks and hot dogs at your fillings stations
and food and equipment in your stores. The fish they take out will provide
many a luxurious meal, and meals are worth money.
Ducks and geese have been dropping down on Bonny Reservoir from
the minute they first spotted its sparkling waters. Because of its
sloping shores and relatively steady volume, it pror.ri.ses to be one of the
best game si tes in the State of Colorado. So the stream of fishermen Will
be augmented by a stream of hunters. They, too, will buy gas and shells
and lunches and hunting licenses; and they too Will bring home meat for
the table.
Just as people corne to hunt and fish, they 1i:I.llcome to enjoy
the\llselves in the water and on the banks. They will buy boats and boating
equipment, and bathing suits and rubber floats and all the other appurten-
ances of water sports. All these things have a value beyond computation
in satisfacticn and healthful recreation; but they have a decided dollar
value too.

2485

6
