The objective of providing watershed <br />management support services is to provide scientific soil <br />and water expertise to achieve optimum resource outputs <br />consistent with the improvement protection and maintenance <br />of watershed condition. <br /> <br />2524.03 - Policy <br /> <br />1. Identify watershed management support service needs <br />in the work planning and budget process. <br /> <br />2. Provide technically qualified personnel to ensure <br />that decisions involving the use and development of National <br />Forest System lands will be made with: <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />a. Understanding of soil and water resource needs, <br />opportunities, capabilities, limitations, and hazards. <br /> <br />b. Knowledge of the potential consequences of these <br />decisions on the soil and water resources. <br /> <br />3. Develop and establish procedures and guidelines for <br />providing watershed management support services. <br /> <br />2524.1 - Support Service Plannin~. Activities frequently <br />requiring support services inclu e land and resource man- <br />agement and project planning by other functions. Support <br />services include the preparation of field guides and the <br />training of personnel in other disciplines to a level which <br />will minimize the need for onsite specialist prescriptions <br />in routine situations. Advance planning and control are <br />essential to efficient and effective use of personnel. <br />Coordinated field investigations often require more than <br />one type of expertise. Interdisciplinary teams may be used <br />to provide coordinated multifunctional support services. <br /> <br />2524.2 - Su~port Service Operations. Use existing data to <br />the extent easible to meet support services needs.
