ODJ73i

h. Concentration of Anticipated New Growth into Existinq
Front Ranqe Cities

Interest in this possible policy is increasing. It
is one suggestion of the Reqional Transportation District
among others.

Benefits: Efforts to guide growth patterns run
with,rather than counter to,unguided
growth trends; detriments of dispersal
policies are avoided.

Detriments: Further population growth in Front Range
will simply increase congestion, urban
sprawl, and all the other ills that have
stimulated search for a population pol-
icy.

Mechanisms: Determine boundaries of probable growth
areas in state, impose strict land use
controls so as to prevent urban sprawl,
and encourage new growth in existing
towns or new cities in such areas.

Question for Proponents:

How can further urban sprawl actually be pre-
vented unless anticipated growth is diverted
away from Front Range?

-]-
