<br />Geographic-Specific Objectives <br /> <br />· RIPARIAN RIVERINE - Preserve <br />natural riverine processes and aquatic <br />habitat, its functions, and its natural and <br />beneficial values while maintaining the <br />area as an active outdoor classroom for <br />park visitors, <br /> <br />Conditions to be attained: <br /> <br />1) Natural succession processes that provide for <br />shifts in organism abundance and distribution <br />when there are changes in the rates and <br />locations of beach-building and erosion from <br />the river are evident. <br /> <br />2) Habitat and species diversity are monitored <br />and maintained. <br /> <br />3) A strategy has been developed to determine <br />the level of day use facilities that would <br />complement a quality visitor experience and <br />resource conservation. <br /> <br />4) Hunting policy considering safety conflicts <br />with the day use area is determined in <br />cooperation with the Colorado Division of <br />Wildlife, <br /> <br />5) Wayside exhibits relating trails, information, <br />and natural processes of the area and an <br />outreach education area are provided. <br /> <br />6) Coordination with BOR and other agencies <br />continues, defining strategies to meet target <br />reservoir elevation levels while considering <br />interagency objectives, The pool target <br />elevation level is met-flooding and ice <br />jamming are minimized. <br /> <br />· GUNNISON RIVER CANYON - <br />Determine level of day use facilities at <br />Wilson's Landing, Determine level of <br />development of roadside pulloffs. <br /> <br />Conditions to be attained: <br /> <br />I) A plan has been developed that determines <br />the level of day use facilities that would <br />complement a quality visitor experience and <br />resource conservation. <br /> <br />2) A plan has been developed that determines <br />the amount of roadside pull offs necessary to <br /> <br />22 <br /> <br />complement a scenic driving experience, <br />provide a quality visitor experience, and <br />provide for interpretation of the park's <br />resources. <br /> <br />· BLUE MESA - Determine the <br />appropriate levels of visitor use, <br />experience, the reservoir's carrying <br />capacity, reservoir levels, and alternative <br />strategies for maintaining the diversity of <br />quality visitor experiences consistent <br />with Curecanti NRA's purposes and <br />significance. <br /> <br />Conditions to be attained: <br /> <br />I) The carrying capacity and the public's <br />perception of what constitutes a quality <br />visitor experience on Blue Mesa (numbers of <br />boats, any use conflicts such as fishermen/jet <br />skiers/water-skiers/windsurfers) has been <br />determined and evaluated in light of resource <br />management and visitor use criteria. <br /> <br />2) Tbe appropriate levels of additional launch <br />and/or marina facilities, if any, and their <br />location(s) have been determined, <br /> <br />3) Reservoir elevations are cooperatively <br />maintained at appropriate levels throughout <br />the year consistent with quality recreational <br />experiences and protection of natural and <br />cultural resources. <br /> <br />· BLUE MESA - Develop a <br />cooperative approach with adjacent land <br />management agencies, private <br />landowners, and other federal, state, and <br />local agencies to protect viewsheds seen <br />from Blue Mesa that are critical to <br />providing quality recreational <br />expenences. <br /> <br />Conditions to be attained: <br /> <br />1) Viewsheds remain generally natural and <br />undeveloped as seen from the reservoir. <br /> <br />2) Viewsheds that are critical to providing <br />quality recreational experiences for park <br />visitors are protected from inappropriate <br />development <br />
