<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />2) Habitat fragmentation of bighorn sheep and <br />other large ungulate range is quantified. <br /> <br />3) Park works cooperatively with other agencies <br />to develop plans to identiJy and mitigate <br />causes and impacts of habitat fragmentation. <br /> <br />4) Facility development does not adversely <br />impact sensitive wildlife and vegetative <br />habitat. <br /> <br />5) Prescribed fire is used, where appropriate, to <br />improve forage and escape terrain for <br />bighorn sheep, <br /> <br />6) Strategies for prevention of the spread of <br />domestic sheep diseases to bighorn sheep <br />populations have been developed and are <br />implemented. <br /> <br />7) Strategies are cooperatively developed with <br />other agencies to protect the Gunnison sage <br />grouse and its associated habitat. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />· WILDLIFE AND FISHERIES- <br />Maintain and restore aquatic terrestrial <br />habitats to protect their ecological and <br />aesthetic character and dependent animal <br />and plant communities. <br /> <br />Conditions to be attained: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />1) Harvesting of species will not decrease 0: <br />conflict with the opportunity for the pubhc to <br />view wildlife in its natural environment. <br /> <br />2) There are opportunities to improve aquatic <br />habitat for reintroduction of cutthroat trout, <br />and reintroduction is pursued with <br />appropriate consultation with other agencies. <br /> <br />3) The quality sport fishery is maintained, <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />· WILDLIFE - Manage populations of <br />prairie dogs to minimize a human health <br />hazard and provide for adequate publIc <br />education. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Condition to be attained: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />1) Prairie dog habitat is modified to reduce the <br />potential for plague, <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />· WILDLIFE - Allow hunting and <br />trapping of game species where such use <br />is specifically authorized and not in <br />conflict with other recreational uses, <br /> <br />Condition to be attained: <br /> <br />I) Harvesting of game species is monitored so <br />that it does not derogate resource values, <br />cause undue safety hazards for the visiting <br />public, or interfere with non-hunting <br />visitation and is consistent with the <br />memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the <br />Bureau of Reclamation (BOR), Colorado <br />Division of Wildlife (CDOW) laws and <br />policies, the primary purposes ofth~ park, <br />and the Colorado River Storage Project <br />(CRSP), <br /> <br />· WATER - Manage water resources <br />and aquatic ecosystems to maintain, <br />rehabilitate, and perpetuate its inherent <br />integrity in coordination with the state <br />and other federal agencies and consistent <br />with the Clean Water Act (33 USC 1251 <br />et seq.). <br /> <br />Conditions to be attained: <br /> <br />I) There is an opportunity to enhance viable <br />populations of sensitive or native species. <br /> <br />2) Water quality is maintained at its present <br />high leveL A water quality resource plan is <br />complete and identifies monitoring protocols <br />and actions to be taken in the case of <br />degradation, <br /> <br />3) Groundwater quality is maintained at its <br />present high leveL <br /> <br />· AIR - Perpetuate Class II air quality <br />in parks because of its critical importance <br />to visitor enjoyment, human health, <br />scenic vistas, and the preservation of <br />natural systems and cultural resources. <br /> <br />19 <br /> <br />002213 <br />
