. .GS~31\)

Analysis Tools

An important feature of the DSS will be the provision of a common set of tools to analyze
the results from resident and non-resident models, as well as real-time status information.
These tools will allow for visualization of data in pre-defined formats as well as offer the
flexibility to customize analysis of model results. The analysis tools will include capabilities
to: summarize model results; evaluate system behavior with respect to performance criteria;
track model performance; portray multi-objective tradeoffs; and provide general statistical
analysis, graphics, and reporting utilities. The system will be designed to accommodate
other types of analytical procedures, such as risk and uncertainty analysis, at a future date.

The analysis tools documentation will include descriptions of the capabilities and use of the
tools, example applications, and pertinent background information on analytical procedures.

PROJECT SCHEDULE

The development and implementation of the Integrated Modeling System will proceed in a
phased approach. PRSYM model development will commence in the spring of 1993. Initial
development efforts will focus on the implementation of basic simulation capabilities. A
demonstration prototype for the TV A system will be completed by December 1993. More
complex processes, including a graduated time step, variable spatial resolution, water
temperature and DO modeling, and the link to power economics, will be developed in 1994.
Operational testing and implementation of the PRSYM model on the TV A system will
proceed through 1995.

Implementation of the Modular Hydrologic Modeling System and the development of DMIs
to other non-resident models will also occur during 1993. Analysis tools will be developed
in a phased approach through 1993 and 1994.

The generic applicability of the Decision Support and Modeling Systems must be
demonstrated on a second utility. The second utility will be selected in 1993. Tailoring of
the DSS and modeling frameworks to the second utility will occur in the 1994-1996 time
period.

ROLE OF SUBCONTRACTORS AND CONSULTANTS

The Integrated Modeling System will be jointly developed by TV A, a subcontractor, and
consultants. The University of Colorado Center for Advanced Decision Support for Water
and Environmental Systems (CADSWES) has been selected as the Subcontractor for the
model development. This selection is based upon CADSWES' involvement as the
Subcontractor for the development of the DSS component of the INTEGRAL Project, as well
as CADSWES' experience with object-oriented programming and the development of a
generic, modular reservoir system model for an operational water resource agency.

S-4
