.

.

The Windy Gap Project will consist of a small
diversion reservoir about 1 1/2 miles west of the Town of
Granby downstream of the juncture of the Colorado and Fraser
Rivers. At this location there will be a pumping plant
consisting of five 80 cfs pumps each powered by a 6,000
horsepower electric motor. These pumps will transport the
water through an 8 foot diameter pipeline approximately five
miles to an inlet chute on the south end of Lake Granby in
the area known as Rainbow Bay. From this point the waters
of the Windy Gap Project will be co-mingled with water of
the Colorado-Big Thompson Project. This co-mi.ngled water
will then be pumped from Granby Reservoir through the
Granby Pumping Plant, travel through Shadow Mountain
Reservoir and Grand Lake to the mouth of the Adams Tunnel,
and, thence, to the eastern slope for delivery to the par-
ticipants in the Windy Gap Project., As in the case of the
water of the COlorado-Big ,Thompson Project, the water to be
developed by the proposed Windy Gap Project has been totally
allotted to participants made up of five of the original
six cities, excluding the City of Fort Collins which has
assigned its allotment to the Platte River Power Authority,
the wholly owned and operated power supplier for the cities
of Fort Collins, Longmont, Loveland, and Estes Park, all of
which are original project participants.

The Windy Gap Project is designed and will be con-
structed to capture water available during 'the high runoff
periods normally through the months of April, May, June and
.July. As we have stated, the Windy Gap Project is being
,
developed as an independent water supply for the participants
in that project to provide for the expected growth and water
needs for the next 20 years. If the Windy Gap Project were

-6-

.
