THE INfERIOR. <br /> <br />Dear Mr. Secretary. <br /> <br />Oae of the )?rojeots suggested tcr construotion under the act approved <br />Auguat Ih 1939 l53 stat. 1418). is the Manoos projeot in Monter:.\llll!L county. <br />Colorado. I am glad to advise yOQ that the Department of Agrioulture is <br />sincerelY interested .in ths proposed construotian of a reservoir and other <br />irrigation works to provide suppl~ntal w<\ller for 'the area conaorned. <br /> <br />The reports of "the Bureau of Reclamation indicate that the project <br />has engl.neering feasibility. and our own field investigatloll8 show the need <br />for a supplemental water BUpply if the Bl;riculture of the area is to be re- <br />habilitated. I understand that part of the oost is to be absorbed by other <br />than agrioultural interests. GIld siooe we are not aware ot the oosts to be <br />allooa1:ed to tho various interests we _t assu:ne that the obarges to the <br />farmers would be within their ability to repay. It is understood addi- <br />tioJl/l.l nonreimbursable funds will be made available for oonatruo1;1on thru <br />the partioipation of the Work Projects A&n1nistraticn. <br /> <br />Construot10n of this projeot is rec<llllllleJ1ded with the Department of' <br />Agriculture participating as follows. . <br /> <br />1. Make a detailed farm and population study looking toward a <br />possible reorganbf!t1on of the farm units providing additional land <br />for farmers now on inadequate-silled units. <br /> <br />2. Aoqui.re and develop land to assist in acoomplishing such adjust- <br />mants as are slw1lll1 nElOessary. <br /> <br />:;.
