Task 1 ~ Design Database Structure for Administrative Databases

c..e~~bility: ~t~ . . .. .

'(Jfjjectlve: Design a relatIOnal database structure which allows storage of admInIstrative
data for the Water Administration Tool. These tables will be designed to be a part of and
consistent with HydroBase to simplifY maintenance.

Approach:

Figure 1.1 presents a conceptual design of the tables required for the Administration Tool
implementation. It connects to the existing HydroBase design at the structure table.
Throughout this task, the name provided in parenthesis corresponds to a table name in
Figure 1.1. If the name is the same, the parenthesis are empty. For example, Water
Information Sheet Data (WIS_Data), indicates water information sheet data is in table
WIS Data of Figure 1.1. Similarly. Release 0 indicates Release data exists in the
Release table in Figure 1.1.

1.1. Water Information Sheet Table(s) This subtask is expected to include the design
of five tables; the \-Vater Infoffilation Sheet Daia (WIS_Data), Water Information
Sheet Comments (WIS_Comments), Priority diversions (Priority_Divr), Delivery
diversions (Delivery_Divr) and Releases O. The Water Information Sheet table
contains data key structures obtained from daily District Water Worksheets and
Division Worksheets used in water administration. These Key Structures are
expected to number approximately 30 - 40 structures per Water District, although the
software will be designed to accommodate as many structures as needed. Division
Worksheets are expected to be a subset or concatenation of District Water Worksheets
in their division. Both worksheets are expected to have similar types of data (river
flows, diversions, comments). The Water Information Sheet Comment, Priority
diversions, Delivery diversions and Releases are self explanatory.

1.2. Water Information Sheet Format This subtask includes the design of two tables;
the Water Information Sheet Format (WIS_Format) table and Water Information
Sheet Formula (WIS_Formula) table. The WIS Format table contains the information
required to present water information in a spreadsheet (matrix) format. This
information is expected to be used to define each row. These two tables contain date
information which will allow the Water Administration Tool to track and present a
District or Division Information Worksheet format and data which may change over
time. The WIS Formula table contains the information required to store user defined
formulas.

1.3. Special Project Data Tables This subtask includes the design of two tables; the
Special 'Project data (Special_Data) and Special Project Formatted Data
(Formatted_Special). The Special Project data table will contain a snapshot of a
Special Project sheet stored as a image. The Special Project Formatted data table will
contain daily formatted data from State or Non-State Entity special project sheets
which can be imported into Water Information Sheets.

c:1 wlcrdsslscopelph IIlblscope.doc

o ,.Z G

4/24/97 . 8
