I. Memorandum describing SPWRMS database population scripts.
2. Operational data transfer utility.
3. Developer's Manual documentation in include the V AX to Server communications in
MS Word.

Task 7 -Client-Server Database Utilities

Responsibility: RTi

Objective: Develop the following two client-server database communication processes:

· Synchronize Utility A two-way means of a updating or appending "real-time" data
between the Server (INFORMIX) database and Client (ACCESS) database in both
directions. This includes data such as Satellite data, Call Information, Water
Information Sheet (Data and formatting), and Special Project Sheets. The client
machine will'keep track of the latest information received from the server to allow the
synchronization of "real-time" data to occur. Note: Satellite data will only flow from
the Server to the Client.

· Update (FTP) Utility A one-way means of transferring "static" data from the Server
(INFORMIX) database to a Client (ACCESS) database. This includes data such as
Structure, Water Rights, historic streamflow, map layers, etc. The update of the
client database will be a wholesale drop and replace which would occur only
infrequently, probably once a year. The consultant proposes not to actively
synchronize these data, only replace it when outdated.

Comments: The GUI's which execute the processes developed in this task are developed
in Task 12,Network Communication Options.

The utilities developed under this task are not intended to have the functionality of a
database replication technology as is available in the Enterprise Replication from
Informix.

Approach:

7.1. Approach Recommend an approach to synchronizing relational data between the
PC-Client (MS Access) and the Server (INFORMIX) databases in a 3-4 page
memorandum. Investigate existing software packages such as dbAnywhere.

7.2. Synchronization Utilities Implement the recommended Client-Server database
synchronization utilities and verifY operations. This functionality will be utilized by
the Database Sync GUI developed in Task 12.3.

7.3. Update (FTP) Utility Implement an update utility which will allow the user to drop
and replace selected ACCESS database table(s) based on user defined parameters
such as Water District(s) or Division(s). This functionality will be utilized by the
FTP GUI developed in Task 12.5.

c:\wlcrdsslscopelphlllblscope.doc

0718

4/24/97 - 16
