The 27-mile section between

I

Cheesman Reservoir and Waterton is threatened by the proposed

construction of Two Forks Dam and Reservoir. A feasibility

study has been completed for this Bureau of Reclamation proposal,

although construction authorization has not been granted or funded.

This clear and tumbling canyon section of the South Platte is

highly scenic and extremely popular with residents of nearby

Denver and Colorado Springs for fishing, hiking, sightseeing,

picnicking, camping, tubing, and off-road vehicle use. In

addition to the impoundment threat, the popularity of the area has

created problems. Evidence of overuse is everywhere. .Existing

recreation facilities

~-~
~"~

i~adcquate.

Dust raised by vehicles

4
