MANAGEMENT GOALS AND OBJECTIVES FOR AQUATIC RESOURCES MANAGED
FOR SPORTFISHING RECREATION

A.

Intensive Management Waters - Akron city Lake and Jackson
Reservoir

l
I
I
I

1.

2.

B.

3.

Maintain a catch rate of 0.9 fish per day, and 3.6
fish per day per angler (status quo).
utilize catchable plants at appropriate times to
enhance fishing opportunity.
In small waters <100 acres, utilize catchable
rainbow trout as late in fall as possible to
promote ice fishing opportunity, and increase
angler days of recreation.
In waters >500 acres, utilize catchable rainbow
trout to provide additional opportunity, increase
recreation days, and provide interim fishery while
warmwater fish species complement develops.
Regulate harvest of warmwater species with reduced
bag, and/or minimum length limits to improve
quality of sportfishery.
Conduct periodic fisherman creel census to monitor
catch and harvest characteristics of selected
fisheries.
Conduct fish population sampling to monitor fish
population age, growth, and abundance dynamics.
utilize data analysis from f. and g. to guide fish
stocking recommendations.

I
~

4.

5.

6.

7.

8.

Optimum Management Waters - Boyd ponds, Chartiers ponds,
Cottonwood ponds, DePorter Lake, Fort Morgan ponds,
Wacker ponds, Haxtun city Lake, Holtorf Lakes, Holyoke
city Lake, Jumbo Annex Reservoir, Kiwanis Kids pond,
pronger pond, Tamarack Ranch pond, North Sterling
Reservoir, Julesburg Reservoir and Prewitt Reservoir.

1. Maintain a fisherman catch rate of 0.3 fish per
day, and 1.4 fish per day per angler (status quo).
2. utilize limited plants of catchable rainbow trout
for exhibitions, and to promote increased angler
recreation days and catch for ice fishing.
3. utilize a multiple species diversity of warmwater
fish species to stock in large plains reservoirs
based on: habitat, spawning potential, angler
preference, availability, growth potential, and
forage preference and availability.
4. Regulate harvest of selected fish species through
bag reductions, and minimum length limits to
improve the quality of the fishery.

12
