.

001737

.

.

.

CRESTED BUTTE PROJECT
_. --.,.- --~.._~--"---

l'QBP(1SE OF J~!Es..TIG.tl'II)N

Acting under the authority previously cited this

investigation was undertaken primarily to detennine the

feasibility and the prohable cost of developing, by stor-

nge in Lnke Brennan, an adequate supply of domestic water

for the town of Crested Butte. Since the studies for that

purpose showed that there is considerable additional water

storable at a moderate cost, further studies were made to

show, in a preliminary wAY, where such stored water could be

utilized.

A final decision as to the use of the storage in

excess of the needs of Crested Butte, must be conditioned

on the ability to secure certain concessions as to present

vested rights in Loke Brennon water. It should perhaps,

await also the investigation of Ohio Creek and other supplies

which can only be done when at least a few years of Ohio Creek

stream flow and diversion record are secured. This study will,

in the meantime, serve as a record and it is possible that

the Ohio Creek development if made in the near future would

serve, with some changes, any ultimate development in Ohio

valley and the vicinity.

-b-
