Theelectrici ty supplied <br /> <br /> <br />by the town is for purely domestic loml only, and would if it were to <br /> <br /> <br />continue, probably have only a moderate increase. <br /> <br /> <br />However, in connection with a county-~~de rural electrification <br /> <br /> <br />project, it is nOTI proposed to include the domestic load of Crested Butte, <br /> <br /> <br />and t€!llporarlly at least to supply the total load with a steam plant :!D- <br /> <br /> <br />cated in Crested Butte. The total demand of the to\ffi will therefore be <br /> <br /> <br />decreased by approx1JUately one acre-foot per day from the emount which <br /> <br /> <br />hae been required in the immediate past. There are no rccerds of cen- <br /> <br /> <br />sumptien and none of stream flor, but the capacity of the pipe linG from <br /> <br /> <br />Coal Creek to the reservoir does not exceed 4 second-feet. The period of <br /> <br /> <br />shortage in 1939 lasted, however, for about 90 days, during which time no <br /> <br /> <br />water was use.j in the power plant and there was not enough water for the <br /> <br /> <br />other uses. <br /> <br /> <br />The increased reservoir capacity of roughly 600 acre-feet would, <br /> <br /> <br />without any additions of stream flow either in Coal Creek or into Lake <br /> <br /> <br />Brennan, supply approximately 2,000,000 gallons a day for 90 days. As <br /> <br /> <br />nearly os cun be judged from past perfonnance this is at least twice the <br /> <br /> <br />quanti ty of water that has been used even when the water vIDeel was run- <br /> <br /> <br />ning. However, ovri.ng to extremely cold winter weather it will probably <br /> <br /> <br />always be necsssary to run reservoir releases larger thClIl the e.ctual con- <br /> <br /> <br />sumption te prevent Coal Creek from freezing solid as it does if tho min- <br /> <br /> <br />imum flow drops teo low. <br /> <br /> <br />The capaci ty chosen fOll tho devalopment now seems greater than <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />-4- <br />
