ISSUE <br /> <br />The designation of the Bureau of Reclamation as the lead <br />agency for implementation of the Colorado River Floodway <br />Protection Act. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The Secretary of the Interior has designated the Bureau <br />of Reclamation the lead agency for implementation of the <br />Act. Tribal lands within the Floodway are administered by <br />the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Measures should be taken to <br />ensure the Bureau of Reclamation acti vi ties wi th respect to <br />the Floodway on Indian lands are coordinated through the <br />Bureau of Indian Affairs. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />It is the recommendation of the Task Force that the <br />Secretary create a position within the Bureau of Indian <br />Affairs at the local level to provide for coordination with <br />the Bureau of Reclamation and continued monitoring so that <br />the trust responsibility of the United States is faithfully <br />executed during the implementation of the Act. <br /> <br />VIII-7 <br />
